The Disappearance of Mary Knightly
28 year old Mary Knightly was last seen in Bear, Delaware on February 18, 1998. She was reported missing by her husband on February 26, 1998.
Background
Mary Ann Knightly was born on March 22, 1969. She was married to Roy D. Knightly, and lived on Du Pont Highway in Bear, Delaware at the time of her disappearance. She left behind four children.
Disappearance
At 11:00pm on February 18, 1998, Mary Knightly borrowed a van from her mother, and promised to return it the following day.
At 11:30 pm, Mary was last seen by her husband, Roy Knightly, at their home at 1517 Du Pont Highway in Bear, Delaware.
Her husband states Mary packed a bag and left, saying she was going to visit her sister in Florida. He fell asleep around 11:30 pm; when he woke up at 1:00 am she was gone.
“She said she needed to get away for awhile. I thought she would have been in Florida by now,” Roy said.
Mary never arrived in Florida and hasn’t been heard from since. Her husband reported her missing on February 26, 1998.
Investigation
Following her disappearance, Roy returned the van Mary had borrowed to her mother, saying she had asked him to take it back for her.
Roy said he wasn’t sure how Mary planned to travel to Florida, nor did he know how much money she had with her.
One of Mary’s cousins says Mary had left for a few days at a time in the past, just to get away, but was never gone for more than a few days without contacting someone.
In June 2014, Mary’s husband Roy, who had been named a person of interest in her disappearance, died following a motorcycle accident.
Appearance
White female born on March 22, 1969. Mary has brown hair, blue eyes, stands 5’9 tall, and weighs 130 pounds. She has a scar over her right eye and a scar on her abdomen.
Clothing & Accessories:
Mary was last seen wearing a brown leather jacket with a fur collar and black tights.
